Posted by vishwa prakash on 6:50 PM with No comments

Prince Siddharth attended Buddhahood (enlightenment) in the year 623 B.C on the Vaisakh full moonday (in the month of april-may)sitting under a Peepal(Bodhi) tree on the banks of river Neranjana( or Phalgu  )and became Gautam Buddha..

Getting there- Bodhgaya is situated in the Gaya district of Bihar, 12 kms from district headquarters .Gaya is well connected by trains which is situated on Delhi –Kolkata route of Railways. Bodhgaya airport is also situated some 7kms from Bodhgaya.

Bodhgaya is the place where he attended Nirvana and it is the centre of Buddhist Pilgrimage since ages. Enter the Bodhgaya and you will find innumerable Bodh-vihars (monasteries) build by Buddhist representatives of various countries like, sri lanka, china, japan, thiland , Bhutan etc.. Each monastery is architecturally unique, depicting the believes associated with the people of that country.

Bodhgaya is a peaceful place and atmosphere is filled with various chanting of Buddhist mantra. It is the most holy place for Buddhist community.

The main Temple which is called as Mahabodhi temple is a world Heritage site , which is built at the site where Buddha attended Nirvana, it was originally built by king Ashok, there is a Bodhi tree in the temple compound which is believed to be grown from the roots of original Bodhi-tree under which Siddhartha became Buddha

                                          The Mahabodhi Temple..

The temple has paintings of Buddha and about incidents of his life. The temple is beautifully built and you feel peace of mind inside the premises. I sat on a platform near the bodhi tree and was feeling a great energy and peace of mind. The place has certainly some divine presence.

I also visited the other temples, every temple has paintings & statues  about subject connected with the history of Buddhism.
And  life of Buddha and his teachings

Bodhgaya Attracts Buddhists and non-Buddhists from all over the world ,the place is equally fascinating for tourists as well as for  devotees.

Bodhgaya is certainly the land of Nirvana

we say that we take refuge in Buddha Dhamma Sangha
Buddham saranam gacchami
(I go to the Buddha for refuge)

Dhammam saranam gacchami
(I go to the Dhamma for refuge)

Sangham saranam gacchami
(I go to the Sangha for refuge.)
